Position Overview

Equi is looking for a Director of Fund Operations to support our Private funds and Registered Product (RP) strategy. You’ll be responsible for running the day-to-day back and middle office operations for the firm, as well as being a strategic partner for our high-level initiatives.

This is an incredible opportunity for anyone that’s fascinated by the art and science of investing and is excited by the idea of helping transact hundreds of millions, and eventually billions, of dollars.

You’ll also have the opportunity to be a foundational part of the small team creating the novel and innovative financial products at Equi.

In this role you'll be expected to quarterback ideas all the way to implementation and beyond, collaborating with sales, marketing, operations, legal, compliance, and product as necessary.

Your role will range from managing ground-level operations to generating processes and serving as a thought partner to senior leadership.

Responsibilities Fund Operations & Compliance

Quarterback monthly NAV reporting for each fund, working with outside administrators to review investment activity, investor activity, expense accruals, and cash reconciliation.

Oversee the annual audit process for all funds; work with external auditors and administrators on auditing work papers and documentation.

Review audited financial statements and ensure timely delivery to all investors.

Oversee the tax filings for all funds; work with external tax preparers on fund tax returns by providing necessary supporting docs, such as manager K-1s, to relevant vendors.

Review and approve final Form 1065 & supporting investor K-1 forms.

Own all aspects of launching new funds, including entity formation, creation of fund legal docs in coordination with outside counsel, bank and brokerage account openings, and anything else required for new fund launches

Complete subscription and redemption documents for new and existing external managers in our fund-of-funds and SMA-based funds.

Work as internal CCO with external compliance providers to address any regulatory requirements, such as filings.

Investor Reporting and Support

Generate client portfolio reports. Coordinate with the IR team to deliver in a timely manner.

Build and maintain internal reporting dashboards for all investor activity, including subscriptions, redemptions, and transfers.

Identity and communicate changes in investment activity to support internal strategic decisions.

Support the investor onboarding journey by working with our administrator and internal stakeholders to collect, review, and execute on the necessary documentation in an efficient timeline.

Manage all redemption and transfer requests, including documentation and money movement, while providing the necessary visibility for our investment team.

Managing daily reconciliation of incoming and outgoing wires through the funds.

Coordinate with our IR team to field all investor inquiries.

Additional Responsibilities

Create and track departmental goals for the Fund Operations team. This includes managing quarterly goals, regularly reporting on progress, and providing an operational viewpoint in strategic decision making.

Coordinate with engineering teams to build internal tools and integrate necessary technology vendors.

Serve as relationship owner for any Fund Operations vendors and service providers.

Work with the CCO and compliance providers to address any regulatory requirements, such as filings.

Resolve compliance exceptions, monitor exception reports, and maintain supporting documentation of resolutions.

Knowledge : what experience does this person need to possess?

Experience (8+ years) in middle and back-office fund operations, ideally in hedge funds and / or fund-of-funds. Experience with 40 Act funds is a plus.

Prior direct experience at a hedge fund or fund-of-funds is required.

Experience in fund accounting (NAV & allocation reporting), audit, and tax processes.

Prior audit experience and CPA is a strong plus.

Understanding of the investment regulatory environment and industry best practices.

Experience overseeing compliance internally or via outsourced compliance support

Ability to learn new software quickly. Understanding of the FinTech space, including vendor stacks and software, is preferred.
