Responsibilities*
- Perform history and physical examinations.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies.
- Document in electronic medical record.
- Collaborate with other pediatric ventilator unit team members including physicians, respiratory therapists, nurses, dieticians, and social workers.
- Collaborate with consulting services in multidisciplinary care
- Patient / family education from admission to discharge.
- Respond to calls from patients / families and care teams.
- Perform consults and collaborate with specialty units on children managed in their areas on chronic ventilation including Pediatric Emergency Services
Required Qualifications*
NP :
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
- Current specialty certification to practice as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner OR current specialty certification as a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan with two years of APP experience managing pediatric patients requiring mechanical ventilation.
- Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
- Current DEA registration required
- AHA approved BLS / PALS
- Two years of clinical experience in inpatient pediatrics with high acuity and complex medical needs.
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
- Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or one of its predecessor agencies.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
- Current DEA registration required

Desired Qualifications*
- Two years of nursing / clinical experience with pediatric ventilator dependent patients
- Two years of experience practicing as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant
- Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge by using current medical information and scientific evidence for patient care.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize busy clinical practice.
Work Schedule
Hours / Week : 20-25 hours / week
Shift / Hours / Days : Variable; Rotating days / nights (primary nights) Monday through Sunday, including holidays.
Location : C.S. Mott Children's Hospital Pediatric Ventilator Unit
