The Central ServiceTechnician II is certified as either Certified Registered CentralService Technician (CRCST) or Central Supply Processing DepartmentTechnician
CSPDT) and is responsible forensuring that all surgical supplies instruments and equipment areproperly inventoried decontaminated assembled inspected packagedsterilized stored distributed and tracked in a quality / timelymanner through the hospital.
Works independently with littlesupervision qualified to train others and serves as a resource toCentral Processing customers.
Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesIncludes the Following :
1.Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards Policiesand Behaviors
2. Demonstrates / articulates anunderstanding of the responsibilities of the position
3. Verbalizes and applies knowledge of current departmentand hospital policies and procedures
4. Attendsstaff meeting or equivalent to update knowledge related to currentdepartment / hospital issues
5. Completes annualdepartment / hospital competency requirements and documentsappropriately on Competency / Education record
6.Adheres to all WPH policies and procedures including dress codecode of conduct customer service attendance and submission ofannual physical
7. Identifies and usesappropriate methods and solutions to sort disassemble decontaminaterinse and disinfect instruments and clinical equipment.
Operatesand troubleshoots cleaning equipment. Appropriately handles garbagelinen and biohazardous material. Maintains safety standards.
Responsible for decontamination cleaning processing andsterilization of supplies instruments and equipment
8. Maintains proper functioning of sterilizers ultrasoniccleaner and instrument decontamination washers and performsinspection of same
9. Consistently uses recipesto correctly assemble protect wrap containerize and / or peel packageand label instruments. Identifies and inspects instruments forcleanliness and functionality.
10. Properlyhandles and stores sterile supplies equipment andinstruments.
11. Selects appropriatesterilization methods. Knows and follows correct principles ofsterilization. Properly documents and verifies sterilization loadsand biological test to determine the efficacy of the sterilizationprocess.
12. Retrieves disburses and tracksmedical and surgical supplies and equipment to the customer in aquality / timely manner.
13. Knows uses maintainsand operates the equipment specific to CP i.e. steam Sterrad OERProsterilizers; cart washers; washer / disinfectors ultrasonic cleanersand heat sealers as well as a variety of testing devices.
14. Knows and uses the processes involved in orderingreceiving stocking rotating delivering and monitoring usage ofsurgical supplies.
Communicates supply issues to appropriatepersonnel in a timely manner.
15. EnvironmentalStandards; Maintains a clean orderly work area. Completes assignedhousekeeping duties.
16. Serves as a resource tocustomers on all Central Processing functions.
17. Performs other related job duties as required. Trackshis / her progress and compliance in regards to training staffmeeting and inservice education etc.
18.Distributes medical supplies and restocks the supplies by rotatingthe stock
19. Transport patients to and from theOperating Room and Post Anesthesia Care Unit
20.Cleans and maintains work area including shelves in an orderlyfashion
21. Applies knowledge of current methodsof infection control
22. Completes 10 ContinuingEducation Credits (CECs) annually and submits supportingdocumentation to Manager and Human Resources as required by NYSLaw.
23. Performs all other related duties asassigned
Education & ExperienceRequirements
High School Diplomaor GED required.
Must be certified as aCertified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or CentralSupply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) orgrandfathered(see grandfathering clause below)
Previous Central Supply or Operating Room instrument processingexperience preferred.
Familiarity with medicaltechnology preferred.
Grandfathering : Certainindividuals are grandfathered in and do not have to be certifiedMust have worked for a cumulative total of one year in the fouryears of January 2011 to January 2015.
Grandfathering : Certain individuals are grandfathered in and do nothave to be certified so long as the individual must have worked fora cumulative total of one year in the four years of January 2011 toJanuary 2015.
