Overview

The Maintenance Manager will report to the General Manager and oversee the fleet maintenance program to ensure safe and effective vehicle upkeep.

A successful person in this position will have experience acting as adviser to upper management on potential issues with extensive experience in managing and producing reports.

This person will have experience as a supervisor of supervisors and provider of guidance to technicians to ensure operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

Oversees a mixed transit bus fleet of 200+ vehicles with annual fleet miles in excess of 10 million miles and a staff of 50+ employees.

Schedules employees for the department; ensures the effective supervision of mechanics and other shop workers.

  • nSelects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel n
  • nCoordinates work performed by outside vendors n
  • nOversees the development of efficient repair schedules; reviews repair cost estimates n
  • nApproves priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and requirements of scheduled operations n
  • nHelps to ensure that company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently. n
  • nEnsures that all vehicles are fueled, cleaned, and properly working n
  • nDevelops and implements safety policies and procedures for the department; maintains a safe working environment n
  • nParticipates in the development and administration of the operational budget n
  • nIdentifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods n
  • nEnsures that property, grounds, and facilities are clean and well organized n
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • nHigh school diploma or equivalent required n
  • nASE Certification preferred or willing and able to obtain n
  • nCDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred or able to obtain. (Training Available) n
  • n5 years or more of progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of heavy-duty automotive and transit equipment, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience n
  • nGood written and oral communication skills n
  • nBroad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy-duty transportation vehicles n
  • nFamiliarity with laws / regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities n
  • nAbility to read, interpret, and apply documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. n
  • nAbility to read blueprints, schematics, and other mechanical and / or electrical diagrams n
  • nAbility to read and write routine reports, forms, and other documentation or correspondence - Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office n
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently, strong attention to detail
  • nRegularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear. n

Physical Requirements

  • nMajority of work is accomplished indoors and well-ventilated facilities with telephone and computer. n
  • nThe employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen. n
  • Must be able to bend, twist and be able to lift 50lbs
