Job Summary :
The Director of Hospital Nursing will be responsible for not only the day-to-day operations of the unit but will be charged with developing a strategy and plan to enhance care delivery and improve patient outcomes.
The position will require creativity and risk taking to move nursing care forward. The person in this role will report directly to the Chief Nursing Officer who believes in mentoring and development of all individuals.
The person in this role will be ready to take charge in a dynamic work environment where creativity and leadership are needed to maintain high standards of patient care.
The individual should embrace innovation and have patients at the center of their decision making.

- Newport Hospital and Health Services is located in Newport, WA on the Washington-Idaho border. We are an independent rural healthcare provider.
- Newport Hospital and Health Services consists of : 24 bed Rural Community Hospital - Trauma Level IV 15 providers Rural Health Clinic 72 bed, high level care, Advanced Assisted Living Facility 42 apartment;
low-moderate care level Assisted Living Facility
Education Background and Experience
Minimum Education :
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BA) or equivalent.
Required Licensure / Certifications :
Washington State License or Compact State License, BLS, ACLS
Required Experience :
7 years of progressive leadership in hospital-based medicine
Preferred Qualifications :
Master of Science

Essential Job Functions
- Developing educational and training to onboard newly hired nurses as well as implementing continuing education for current nurses
- Foster strategies to enhance employee retention.
- Work to develop new care models that enhance favorable outcomes for patients.
- Mentor and develop staff to be tomorrow’s nursing leaders.
- Provide guidance and review on nursing policy and procedures. Advocate for entire staff. Give feedback to hospital administration, both positive and negative, so improvements can be made District wide.
- Identify areas for self-improvement. Consider constructive feedback to enhance execution of role.
- Provide performance feedback for all staff and implement improvement plans when needed. Conduct crucial conversations effectively and as needed.
- Direct involvement in the hiring of nursing and ancillary support team.
- Develop and maintain annual staff and equipment budgets.
- Develop budget management and contain costs through responsible utilization of resources.
- Oversite of nursing documentation and quality assurance. Implement solutions to barriers surrounding nursing documentation and care plan development.

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range - dependent on qualifications / experience and receive compensation increment increases annually.
