Define, develop, and deploy environmental strategies, programs and systems to comply with international, federal, state and local product environmental regulations, customer expectations, and company policies, initiatives and goals.
Major areas of emphasis are directives and regulations such as RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Proposition 65, EU MDD, and EU-MDR. Lead the research in identification of parts and assemblies containing PFAS family of chemicals.
Research and recommend alternate materials for PFAS to meet environmental and performance needs. Coordinate testing of materials as needed as part of the PFAS investigation process.
Position Description (Principle Duties and Responsibilities)
- Participate in working groups to establish the identification of PFAS chemicals in existing product portfolio and recommend effective, sustainable and documented alternative materials that meet international, federal, state and local product environmental regulations and product standards compliance, as well as design requirements
- Documentation and maintenance of records used to track and report environmental compliance and environmental stewardship programs
- Assess emerging environmental trends and new and changing Product Environmental Compliance regulations to provide leadership in driving changes into both new product development and product sustaining plans
- Consult on selection and testing of materials to determine whether they meet specifications of mechanical strength, strength-weight ratio, ductility, magnetic and electrical properties, and resistance to abrasion, corrosion, heat and cold
- Respond to questionnaires from tenders, customers, and special interest groups ranging from environmental stewardship initiatives to material content of products
- Respond to environmental questionnaires, inspections or audits from global regulatory authorities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in material science, chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering
- 5 years of design experience in materials identification, selection, and testing
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in material science or chemical engineering
- 5 years' experience in local, state, federal and international Product Environmental compliance practice
