Position Information Position Title Staff Accountant FLSA Exempt FT / PT Full Time Hours Per Week Work Schedule M-F 8 : 30-5 Grade 13 General Responsibilities Employee will be responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations as assigned.
Oversight and preparation of financial surveys and audit schedules. This work includes account analysis, data gathering and coordination of financial information.
Employee will be responsible for performing tasks which involve analyzing data and independent problem solving as needed. Work Performed
- Preparations of journal entries.
- Prepare audit schedules.
- Analyze trial balance variances.
- Responsible for month-end close tasks which include balance sheet reconciliations, payroll and benefit reconciliations, and accrued and prepaid expense recognitions.
- Perform daily accounting functions including reviewing journal entries to ensure proper posting.
- Manage the completion of the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA), Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDs), and other financial surveys.
- Manage the lease and Subscription-Based Information Technology Arrangements (SBITA) transactions within Debtbooks and the corresponding journal entries.
- Train and work with cost center managers in monitoring their budgets.
- Design reports as needed in reporting and query software.
- Assists with special projects in all areas of finance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Number of Years Experience Required 3 Other Knowledge Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or Associate’s degree in accounting or related field with 3 years’ experience in a finance / business office.
- Knowledge of accounting principles.
- Ability to interact tactfully and courteously with others.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to proficiently operate a computer, calculator and copier.
- Experienced using computerized accounting software including spreadsheets and word processing software.
- Experience with Ellucian’s Colleague, Synoptix, and Business Objects, preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- One to three years’ experience in accounting desired.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently as well as part of a team is critical.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- A motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task, problem solve, and take initiative.
- Comfortable with learning new software and writing queries.

- Timeliness of preparation of materials critical to success in this position, meeting all deadlines assigned.
