Job Summary
Provides facilitation of non-credited recreational or musical activities that require specialized or advanced training to participants of the medical center.
Requires independent action, initiative, and identify issues for escalation to supervisors / medical team. May help train other program musician instructors and participate in quality assurance and quality improvement efforts of programming.
Provides instruction in non-credited recreational or sports activities that require specialized or advanced training to participants of all ages.
Requires independent action, initiative and independence to resolve issues. May help train other program instructors.
Department Description
The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Center in an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science.
As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial trans-disciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas.
The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations.
The outpatient solid tumor clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 270 non-physician FTEs, 32+ cost centers, over a dozen grant and philanthropic funding sources and a $22,000,000 expense budget.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitates involvement at all times.
- Interacts with recreational program participants in a positive manner.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of music program facilitation.
- Skills to develop original ideas, utilize creative problem solving, critical thinking, and use of sound judgement in a varied and challenging environment.
- Client service minded.
- Proficiency in the use of basic computer programs relevant to job duties.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrable skill in music improvisation, and improvisation in creation / adjustment of patient activities.
- Experience supporting patients / client in processing grief and loss through art / creative experiences.
- For medical center compatibility, ability to play an instrument that would not be impacted by masking protocols.
- Ability to retain composure during moments of patient emotion / emoting.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills for, and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally.
