Who We Are
MI Poder is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, social welfare and civic engagement organization serving the Latinx population in Michigan.
Our purpose is to strengthen the Michigan Latinx voice and leadership capacity to mobilize our constituents and increase participation in the democratic process.
We develop and advocate for legislation, regulations, and government programs to improve the Michigan Latinx community's opportunities, growth, and investment.
What We Need
Mi Poder is seeking multiple Field Canvassers to engage Latinx voters in face-to-face and phone conversations about current community issues, upcoming elections, voter registration, and absentee voting.
Canvassers will be instrumental in helping mobilize Michigan Latinx residents to vote in August and November. We are looking to fill these positions immediately and will be accepting applications on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities of the Field Canvassers include :
- Have meaningful conversations with community members at doors to drive issue campaigns impacting the Michigan Latinx communities, build power, and engage people in organizing efforts.
- Meet daily, weekly, and monthly voter engagement goals and metrics designed to build power and mobilize Michigan Latinx voters.
- Increase community recognition of MI Poder by building genuine relationships with people in the community.
- Identify potential volunteers at doors who are interested in supporting the Latinx community
- Manage the entry, accuracy, and integrity of daily data in MiniVAN.
- Contribute to other organizational initiatives as appropriate, including cross-functional issues and projects.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

- A deep interest in strengthening the Michigan Latinx voice to build community power and greater social and civic opportunities.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated cultural competency of the Michigan Latinx community.
- Excellent communication skills, with a strong ability to tailor messages to resonate with diverse audiences., specifically the ability to understand the needs of your audience and adapt your communication style accordingly.
- A natural sense of curiosity about people and the ability to build rapport. Experience initiating meaningful conversations with community members fostering open communication with unfamiliar audiences like volunteers.
- Experience collaborating with organizations and people on achieving a shared goal.
- An understanding of community mobilization efforts and how to navigate those efforts with clear, achievable plans of action.
At least 1 cycle of experience working in a competitive field program, electoral campaigns, progressive politics, or advocacy preferred.
- Experience with or willingness to learn voter engagement software programs like America Votes / MiniVan.
- Ability to lead, inspire, and maintain cooperative working relationships and accountability with a diverse group of stakeholders, staff, and volunteers.
- Ability to think and work creatively and critically.
- Must have daily access to reliable transportation and a reliable smartphone.
- Able to fulfill the physical mobility and strength demands of the Field Canvasser role which includes significant standing and walking, lifting up to 25 lbs, and climbing stairs.

What We Offer
Job Classification : , Non-exempt position
- Job Length : At-will Temporary through November 8, 2024
- Compensation : $21 / hr for English speakers; $24 for Bilingual (English / Spanish) speakers
- Work Schedule : Flexible work schedules are available : Tuesday-Saturday; Morning, Evening and Weekend shifts.
