Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Supervising Registered Nurse II / III, Correctional Facility (CF), the Public Health Nurse (PHN) II, CF is responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating the institutional public health and infection control programs at intermediate institutions.

The PHN II, CF provides technical assistance to institutional staff in the implementation of infectious disease control policies and procedures and conducts epidemiological investigations with the guidance of the Public Health Branch, California Correctional Health Care Services.

Interacts with State and local authorities on public health issues. The PHN II, CF, in collaboration with the health care team, ensures the delivery of appropriate and timely health care to patients and coordinates interdisciplinary communication to promote continuity of care.

The PHN II, CF is responsible for addressing the ongoing health care needs of patients and for promoting the timely, efficient, and appropriate use of health care resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current license as a Registered Nurse in California and a current certificate as a Public Health Nurse in California.

Applicants who do not meet these requirements will be admitted to the examination, but they must secure the required license and certificate before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)

One year of experience performing the duties of a Public Health Nurse I, Correctional Facility, in the California state service.

Or II

Experience : Two years of experience as a public health nurse / community health nurse.

Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position.

Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing / evaluation thereafter.
