- POSITION OVERVIEW : *The *Specialty Coordinator - Surgical Technologist* prescribes, prioritizes, delegates, coordinates, and provides safe, therapeutic allocation of nursing resources to patients and families.
Makes independent judgments / decisions and takes action regarding a wide range of issues including instruments and equipment.
Collaborates with appropriate disciplines to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission through discharge in support of the medical and nursing plans of care while in the Operating Room.
This position does not supervise other caregivers.*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES : *Ensure service specific resources are available and maintained as needed.
Coordinate frequently with Central Processing regarding all instruments and supplies related to the specialty service.Maintain resource maps per policy and makes appropriate changes in a timely fashion.
Work with scheduling to monitor upcoming cases to ensure patient needs are met.Develop, plan, and implement process improvements within service.
Alert OR manager or supervisor to actual or potential issues or problems in a timely manner related to specific service.
Initiate / assist with projects, based on unit needs in conjunction with manager / supervisor.Communicate clearly, respectfully, and responsively with surgeons as to their needs, concerns etc.
and follow up with supervisor or manager as applicable.In collaboration with management, establish and implement clear plans and goals with regards to improvement in specific surgical service.
Utilized as a clinical resource related to scrubbing and patient positioning.Create and maintain a sterile field and anticipate the need for equipment and supplies based on a patient's needs.
Complete unit-specific and annual competencies timely.Implement, participate in, and evaluate service specific orientation and education needs in conjunction with OR Nurse Educator and / or OR Coordinator for all staff members.
Serve as a role model, preceptor, and mentor to new caregivers.Remain current with communication via e-mail, verbal communication, meeting minutes, and other means of communication.
