POSITION DESCRIPTION

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS) and the School of Medicine announces a national search led by Grant Cooper for the Director of the Master of Science in Biomedical and Translational Science (MS-BATS) program.

UCI is ranked 10th best public university in the nation and 33rd among all American universities, public and private, according to the annual U.

S. News & World Report "America's Best Colleges" 2022 survey. For the 22nd consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has recognized UCI Medical Center as one of America’s Best Hospitals and the School of Medicine is ranked 44th overall by the U.

S. News & World Report Best Medical Schools for Research . The Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, one of 60 CTSAs around the country, has been continuously funded by the NIH since 2010 and has the mission of advancing clinical and translational sciences to drive the next generation of discoveries that will directly impact patient care.

The MS-BATS program, created in 2012, has successfully trained translational scientists and industry leaders to conduct clinical research that translates biomedical discoveries into clinical practice.

The new director will be expected to continue this tradition by leading and growing an education and training program that will develop the next generation of leaders.

This program involves a mixture of asynchronous and synchronous learning activities and focused research development activities designed to accommodate faculty, medical students, residents, and working professionals.

The director will also have direct input into advancing a faculty development pipeline from the diverse undergraduates, medical students, and residents at UC Irvine in addition to providing educational opportunities for those interested in matriculating in the program who are not currently part of other UC Irvine programs.

The overall goal is to develop the next generation of NIH-funded translational scientists or industry leaders who are armed with a unique set of interdisciplinary skills that they acquired through the program.

Our search will identify outstanding candidates with administrative and academic leadership and interdisciplinary training experience.

Candidates should be distinguished scholars and translational scientists, and forward-thinking leaders who have a vision for developing the next generation of translational-scientist leaders.

Candidates would be expected to have a distinguished record of achievement in research, a strong track record of mentorship, experience in developing educational programs, experience in administration, and a track record in team science.

We desire applicants who have evidence of commitment to or strong potential for commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion for underrepresented minority students and groups (Black / African-American, Latino(a) / Chicano(a) / Hispanic, and Native American).
