About this Role
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Head Swim Coach supports membership and program growth in alignment with, and support of, the YMCA of Southern Maine’s priorities, protocols and values.
The Head Swim Team coach provides multi-faceted support to YMCA aquatics programs, including swim team, swim lessons, lifeguarding, training, youth development, fundraising and member service.
Your responsibilities will include :

Promotes feelings of mutual respect, acceptance, and appreciation. Supports people with unique experiences or points of view to share their perspectives.
Programming - Plan, develop, implement, provide, and maintain high quality programming in accordance with Association protocols and priorities and State guidelines, and in adherence with all Y Brand guidelines.
Ensures all coaches understand team and individual swimmer development plans. Regularly supports programming by teaching swim lessons, guarding, and other duties as needed.
- Leadership Is a collaborative, engaged, and active participant in our Association, including communicating in an effective and timely manner and making sound decisions.
- Relationship Building Develop positive, authentic relationships within the Y and the outside community that lead to greater awareness of the Y’s mission and impact, growth in number of people served, as well as revenue.
Listens and expresses self effectively and with an understanding of the needs of a particular audience.
- Personal Growth Maintains a high degree of emotional maturity and interpersonal skills and is committed to personal growth and skill acquisition.
- Data Collection Maintain accurate and consistent data tracking as required.
We’re looking for someone :
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Prior swim coaching experience, with demonstrated technical expertise.
- Superior communication skills and an ability to express ideas clearly and effectively, in writing and verbally, in a group or one-on-one situation.
- Certifications including :
- Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with CPR / AED / First Aid.
- Child Protection Training, including Mandated Reporter
- Principles of YMCA Swimming and Diving (or within 30 days)
- YMCA V6 Swim Lessons (or within 90 days)
- Certified Lifeguard Instructor (or within 90 days)
- Ability to learn new software systems quickly, excellent computer skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel locally.
- A criminal background check is required and may include fingerprinting through the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), prior to hire.
This will be paid for by the YMCA of Southern Maine.

Salary
$18 - $20 / hour, depending on experience.
