Department Summary

The School of Public Health (SPH) at The University of North Texas Health Science Center (HSC) seeks applications to fill a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Population & Community Health.

This is a 12-month, practice track appointment focused on graduate education in biostatistics and research methods in public health with the possibility for consultation on grants and contracts.

The candidate must possess an earned doctorate in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a directly related area by the date of hire.

Teaching responsibilities will be within the SPH, which offers CEPH-accredited programs, including the MPH, MS, and PhD, as well as the CAHME-accredited MHA degree program.

Position Overview

The faculty member will teach 5-6 graduate-level courses per year in person and / or online. Courses include introductory and advanced topics in biostatistics, research methods, data management, data visualization, and statistical programming (e.

g., R, Python, SAS, SPSS, Stata, Mplus) for students interested in a career in biostatistics / data science as well as for students interested in gaining proficiency in utilizing biostatistics / data science methods in their line of work.

They will also contribute to course development and curriculum planning; advise students in our graduate degree programs;

provide service to the department, school, and university; and are expected to engage in scholarly activities related to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Preference will be given to candidates who show evidence or promise of a teaching career developing and practicing effective, evidence-based teaching strategies and novel pedagogic technologies in biostatistics and data science.

Experience with community or industry-based data analysis and dissemination is also a plus. A teaching statement highlighting teaching philosophy with examples of learning activities and student evaluation approaches are required for application consideration.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Teaching and Curriculum Development :

  • Develop and deliver graduate-level biostatistics-related courses and research capacity building curricula in public health
  • Create and update course materials, syllabi, and assessments to ensure curriculum relevance and alignment with the latest academic and / or industry trends
  • Mentor students and early career researchers through advising and consultation on research projects and career development

2. Research / Scholarship, Service, and Engagement :

  • Collaborate with SPH colleagues and external academic and community partners in teams to nurture an inclusive, interdisciplinary collaborative environment
  • Develop new collaborative relationships with academic, community and industry partners to provide opportunities for faculty and students

3. Professional Development :

  • Stay current with emerging trends and challenges in public health and biostatistics
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations and networks to maintain a strong presence in the field
  • Pursue opportunities for professional growth

Minimum Qualifications

  • A terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a directly related area
  • Demonstrated expertise in the field of biostatistics
  • Demonstrated experience in or potential for teaching and curriculum development at the graduate level
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to work independently and collaboratively
  • Effective communication skills
