Applications are invited for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences at Boston University for the fall of 2025.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate and the potential to establish a high-impact, funded research program in the broad and multidisciplinary fields applicable to Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.

Priority will be given to candidates with a successful record of or strong potential for obtaining external support for their research programs.

The Department of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences offers a B.S. degree program in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, an M.

S. degree program in Speech-Language Pathology, and a Ph.D. degree program in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. Our MS program in Speech-Language Pathology is ranked # 5 by US News and World Report.

There are on-site speech-language and hearing clinics, as well as affiliated clinics at the Boston University Medical Campus, and on-site state-of-the-art research laboratories.

Assistant Professor position (Responsibilities)

The position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track appointment. Responsibilities include developing an internationally recognized research program with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, securing external funding, delivering high-quality instruction to students in the undergraduate and graduate programs and mentoring / advising students at all levels.

Responsibilities also include participation in departmental, college, university, and professional service activities. Start date is September 1st, 2025.

  • PhD in disciplinary fields applicable to speech, language, and hearing sciences
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research
  • Evidence of potential to secure external research funding; priority will be given to candidates with a successful record of obtaining external support for their research programs
  • Record of or commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring of students
