POSITION : Mechanic / Maintenance Worker

This job description reflects a general assignment of essential functions; it does not include or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES :

Under general supervision, performs work in the maintenance and repair of equipment, machines, and buildings in support of the manufacturing process;

performs related work as required or assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment, machines and tools

Inspect drives, motors, belts, etc.; check fluid levels, replace filters and perform other maintenance actions

Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work

Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove and repair / replace defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools

Perform manual labor

Maintains proper inventory of required parts

Maintain order and housekeeping; maintains grounds as assigned

Perform all occupational safety and hazard procedures in conjunction with all essential duties

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of :

Equipment, machines and tools

Occupational hazards and proper safety precautions

Skills in :

Performing routine maintenance on equipment

Repairing equipment, machines or systems using the required tools

Ability to :

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employee

Communicate effectively and at an appropriate level for this classification

GRADES (general description of the minimum requirements) :

Grade A exhibits expertise in diagnosis, maintenance and repair of all plant equipment, and efficiently returns equipment into service with no supervision.

Leads, instructs, and trains maintenance personnel.

Grade B exhibits proficiency in diagnosis, maintenance and repair of assigned plant equipment, and proficiently returns equipment into service with little supervision.

Leads, instructs, and trains maintenance personnel.

Grade C exhibits knowledge in diagnosis, maintenance and repair of some plant equipment, and proficiently returns equipment into service with supervision.

Grade D performs tasks and processes pertaining to plant and equipment maintenance with direct supervision.

Grade E entry level position. Has a basic understanding of tools and repair procedures for some equipment. Can perform minor repairs and servicing of equipment under direct supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

Employee may be exposed to :

Moving mechanical / electrical parts and equipment

Fumes or airborne particles

Vibration

Metal preservatives

Oils and greases

Loud noises

Heat / cold / wet conditions

Working above ground

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls;

reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or twist; talk and hear, see and focus. The employee must regularly lift and / or move heavy objects, up to and exceeding 50 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities of this classification.

Must successfully complete and possess all required company training and certification before operating any machinery, equipment or tools.

Must be able to work overtime on short notice, which could exceed 8 hours per shift and / or 40 hours per work week.
