Job Description
Job Responsibilities :
Manage daily operations of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, which includes : Blood, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Molecular Virology, Autopsy Services, Histology, OB / GYN Pathology, Surgical Pathology and the 7W Special Pathogens Lab.
Responsible for directing complex departments with PS and OTPS budgets.
Improve patient access and provide complaints resolution.
Develop new business strategies, short and long-term strategic planning, internal and external lab consolidations and computerization of pathology labs.
Ensures that compliance and procedures are developed, implemented, reviewed and updated in order to ensure constant compliance with College of American Pathologist (CAP), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).
Developing and maintaining a dashboard for monitoring lab operations.
Develop and manage strong auditing processes to ensure compliance with department standards and regulatory agencies.
Completes staff competencies and annual evaluations.
Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor and / or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Holds and maintains a Clinical Laboratory Technologist License issued by the New York State Education
Department (NYSED) and meets one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined
in Title 10, Section 58-1.4 of the New York Public Health Law; and
2. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Biology, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory
Sciences or a related field; and five (5) years of experience overseeing laboratory operations, creating and
establishing laboratory programs and reviewing and interpreting safety data, in a hospital or health care
setting, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory
capacity; or
3. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the fields described in 2 above; and,
seven (7) years of laboratory experience as described in 2 above, five (5) years of which must have been in
a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or
4. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training, and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed
and currently registered by the NYSED to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist and meet one of the
qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor, as described in 1 above.
