Administrative and Support Services, Detention Services, and Field Services in addition to operating the countywide Major Crime Task Force.

The responsibilities of the Sheriff's Office Bureaus include providing general law enforcement services in the unincorporated communities of Marin County, maintaining the county jail, providing security to the Superior Court, operating a countywide communications division, performing death investigations under the purview of the Coroner, operating a documentary services division consisting of records, warrants, civil units, and more.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Parking Enforcement Officer is a uniformed law enforcement support position that assists the public by performing a variety of activities related to the enforcement of appropriate codes, laws and regulations pertaining to on-street and off-street parking within the unincorporated areas of the county and on County property.

The incumbent does not perform Peace Officer duties or have legal standing as a sworn law enforcement officer.

There is currently one (1) full-time, regular hire vacancy that will be filled at the Parking Enforcement Officer Level I or II.

Candidates will be considered for the level(s) for which they meet minimum qualifications.

ABOUT YOU

Our Highly Qualified Candidate : The ideal candidate has knowledge and experience with enforcing parking regulations and issuing citations in accordance with the California Vehicle Code.

Additionally, the ideal candidate is familiar with and has experience in utilizing, interpreting, and enforcing local County and / or Municipal vehicle code violations.

The ideal candidate has working experience involving heavy public contact and has demonstrated the ability to diffuse tense or potentially volatile situations through effective communications skills.

They understandard office administrative methods, practices and procedures including data entry, updates, exchange, and retrieval.

The ideal candidate has demonstrated proficiency in office record keeping procedures as well as the ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with people of all backgrounds.

We recognize your time is valuable, so please note that you must have at least the following required Minimum Qualifications to be considered for this position :

Parking Enforcement Officer I : Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed in the class specification .

Typically, equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of general clerical or office assistant experience, including significant public contact / customer service.

Parking Enforcement Officer II : (In addition to above qualifications for Parking Enforcement Officer I) One year of experience in a law enforcement or public safety agency performing parking enforcement and related non-sworn field law enforcement support.

Certificates and Licenses :

Must obtain within the probationary period and maintain department-designated certification in First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.

Must possess a California class C driver's license and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County including review of a recent DMV history.

Testing and Eligible List : Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination may consist of a highly qualified review, application screening, online assessment, written examination, oral examination, performance examination, or any combination to determine which candidates' names will be placed on the eligible list.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill the current vacancy, and any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions which may occur while the list remains active.

Background Process : Applicants successful in testing will be subject to a thorough and rigorous background investigation which may include, but is not limited to, a criminal records check, interviews with friends, relatives, neighbors and employers;

verification of DMV records; and overall employment and education history. An applicant may be disqualified for past criminal convictions, poor driving record, providing false background information, and other reasons.

Drug Use Standards : No use of illegal drugs within the timelines described in the Pre-Employment Drug Use Guidelines . Applicants successful in testing will be given a polygraph examination and / or computerized voice stress analysis and will be asked about illegal drug use.

Disaster Service Workers : All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).

Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
