OVERVIEW :
Physical therapists examine each person and then develops a treatment plan to improve their ability to move, reduce or manage pain, restore function, and prevent disability.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Reviewing patients’ medical histories
- Diagnosing patients by observing their movements and listening to their concerns
- Developing individualized treatment plans for patients
- Outlining clear goals for patients and the expected outcomes of the plan
- Using exercises, stretching, equipment, and hands-on therapy to manage patients’ pain, increase mobility, and prevent further pain and injury
- Recording patients’ progress and modifying the plan of care if needed
- Educating patients and family members about the recovery process
- Consulting with patients to learn about their physical condition and symptoms
- Assisting patients with the use of equipment such as wheelchairs or walkers
- Advising the patient and family about in-home treatment options and exercises
QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :
- Master of Science or Doctorate in Physical Therapy from an accredited program
- Successful completion of National Certification Examination
- Valid PT license in state of practice
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
- This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the care center.
- Incumbent may be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.
- Incumbent may be required to work extended periods of time at a video display terminal.
- Incumbent may experience traumatic situations, including psychiatric, and deceased patients.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day.
- The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.
