About the Role

The New York Times is looking for a Senior Finance Analyst to join our News Finance team. You will report to the Director of Finance with opportunities to embed with the Newsroom Strategy group.

You will have a firm understanding of FP&A principles and the ability to provide accurate numbers. The primary responsibilities include budgeting and forecasting expenses, creating forecasting materials, and providing commentary for financial results each month.

This is a hybrid position, based in our New York City headquarters. You will report to the office in-person 3 or more days per week and can choose to work remotely the other days.

Responsibilities :

Participate in the strategic planning and budgeting process, including preparation of budgets and quarterly forecasts

Prepare important reporting on the newsroom’s financial and operational performance on a monthly and quarterly basis and recommending or modifying reports to support priorities and projects

Oversee budget spend and present financial results to newsroom leadership and department heads

Respond to internal and external ad-hoc requests, including from newsroom masthead, corporate leadership, and compliance requirements

Support the creation and analysis of P&Ls for growth areas of the newsroom

Demonstrate support and understanding of our and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

Basic Qualifications :

Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field required.

3+ years of experience in relevant financial roles with a sound understanding of financial and accounting concepts

Excellent MS Excel (can build and maintain complex spreadsheets)

Agile with the ability to handle simultaneous requests

Technical expertise required with the ability to work with large amounts of data and build financial models

Experience providing insights to senior leaders that result in sound decisions

Preferred Qualifications :

Passion for journalism and commitment to the mission of The Times

Advanced degree or CPA

Experience with Workday Financial, Adaptive, and GoogleWorkspace

The annual base pay range for this role is between $95,000.00 and $105,000.00.
