Civil Engineer-Wastewater

The Civil Engineer will be responsible for executing technical work related to municipal wastewater engineering projects.

This role focuses on the design, evaluation, and upgrading of wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and sewer systems.

The successful candidate will work independently or as part of a team, with opportunities to manage projects from conception through completion.

Strong experience in wastewater infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and public bidding processes is essential.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate existing wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and sewer systems to assist clients with the management and operation of these systems.
• Perform engineering design for improvements and upgrades to existing facilities.
• Prepare and review bid documents, including plans and specifications, for public procurement.
• Review and respond to DEP, DRBC, and other regulatory agencies regarding compliance and permitting for wastewater projects.
• Prepare 537 plans and grant applications, as needed to implement capital improvement projects.
• Conduct site investigations, field inspections, and oversee construction observation to ensure compliance with design intent and regulatory standards.
• Review private development plans for sewer system compatibility and enforce compliance with municipal authority standards.
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, and municipal authorities to maintain relationships and ensure smooth project execution.
• Prepare reports, studies, and technical documents related to wastewater infrastructure improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in sewage planning, wastewater treatment design, pump station design, and municipal plan reviews.
• EIT certification or Registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania preferred.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong working knowledge of wastewater treatment processes.
• Familiarity with regulatory permitting (NPDES, WET testing) and environmental compliance requirements.
• Experience with public bidding processes for wastewater equipment and construction projects.
• Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (SewerGEMS or similar) and AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred).
• Ability to perform technical design calculations and prepare detailed technical reports.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high ethical standards.
• Ability to manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously.
• Self-motivated to stay current with emerging technologies and regulatory changes in wastewater treatment and conveyance.

Position Requirements

• Occasional regional travel for site visits, fieldwork, or client meetings.
• Ability to work non-standard hours as needed to meet project deadlines or attend public meetings.
