Position Summary :
The Nurse Extern, is currently enrolled and in good standing in an RN School of Nursing and has successfully completed a Nursing fundamentals course.
The Nurse Extern delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living.
Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the Nurse Extern’s skills / training.
The Nurse Extern can perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved and knowledge has been acquired from the school curriculum.
During the final practicum of nursing school and until licensure, the nurse extern may be preceptored by an RN and perform aspects of patient care as deemed competent to perform with continued supervision of a registered nurse.
The Nurse Extern is expected to convert to an RN position within 4 months or less of the graduation date. After this period, if the Nurse Extern cannot move to an RN role, they will be required to transfer to an alternate position and cannot continue in the Nurse Extern role.

EXPERIENCE :
Prior clinical experience in area of expertise preferred.

BLS Certification

The Nurse Extern role is designed to provide expanded clinical experience for senior professional (RN) nursing students and to assist the Registered Nursing staff by performing patient care activities, which includes participating in patient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation, as well as reporting significant observations to a Registered Nurse.
Education :
Required : Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program, and upon completion of first clinical rotation.
Experience : Certifications :
Required : CPR.
