JOB SUMMARY : The Database Administrator I is responsible for assisting in the creation, optimization, and management of database systems that support the organization's applications and end-users.
This role focuses on ensuring the security, availability, and performance of database services under the guidance of senior team members.
The Junior DBA will work closely with developers, system administrators, and project managers to learn and support scalable database solutions, perform upgrades, implement backups, and help ensure compliance with data management standards.
REPORTS TO : IT Director
SUPERVISOR STATUS : This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities, but is expected to serve as a mentor and technical leader within the database team.
EQUIPMENT : High-performance workstation, access to enterprise-grade database management tools.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Database Design and Maintenance
Assist in designing and implementing database structures that support high availability and scalability.
Help maintain database integrity, backup, recovery, and failover procedures.
Install and maintain the performance of database servers.
Diagnose and troubleshoot basic database errors.
Assist with query tuning and optimization.
Support performance tuning of database systems.
Help create automation for repeating database tasks.
Security and Compliance
Assist in implementing and maintaining database security strategies that comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Support regular audits of database access and usage to ensure security compliance.
Help manage database access and apply data encryption and data security standards.
Collaboration and Support
Work closely with application development teams to integrate databases with business applications.
Provide expert advice and support during database-related deployments and troubleshooting.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain detailed documentation for database architectures, configurations, and procedures.
Generate regular reports on database health, performance metrics, and improvement plans.
Ad-hoc reporting

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Background
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Informatics, or a related field.
Experience
1+ years of experience in database administration or related field.
Some experience with SQL database technologies is preferred.
Technical Proficiency
Basic understanding of database design and architecture.
Experience or coursework in database development using RDBMS or NoSQL data stores.
Basic understanding of database structure, theories, principles, and practices.
Some experience with database tuning and troubleshooting is a plus.
Familiarity with data backup, recovery, security, and integrity.
Basic understanding of SQL and Version Control Systems, such as Git.
