The entry-level internal auditor will support the internal audit function by evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of the organization’s internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
This role involves assisting in the planning and executing audit engagements, performing data analysis, audit fieldwork, and contributing to preparing audit reports.
The Entry-Level Internal Auditor will work under the guidance of the senior auditors and / or internal audit manager and management to ensure compliance with the Institute of the Internal Auditors (IIA) standards and other auditing standards and best practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Conduct or assist in the execution of regular and special audit projects of organizational and business functions of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District-including but not limited to compliance, internal control, and economy and efficiency audits / reviews · Participate in preliminary surveys to understand processes and identify risks and controls
Document and test processes while scrutinizing the adequacy, efficiency, and effectiveness of internal controls
Perform data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and areas of concern
Prepare detailed audit programs to ensure adequate and efficient coverage of the established audit objectives and scope
Perform audit fieldwork in an efficient, effective, and professional manner
Document audit findings, prepare work papers, and maintain audit files in accordance with IIA standards
Make or assist in making written and / or oral presentations to management during and at the conclusion of projects
Prepare formal written reports
Assess or assist in the appraisal of submitted corrective actions to improve deficient conditions
Ascertain whether corrective actions were implemented as planned and assist in the development of corrective action plans
Support the audit team in identifying and assessing the organization’s operations risks.
Assist in assessing the organization’s adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Participate in training and professional development activities to stay updated with IIA standards and other auditing standards and best practices.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of audit processes and methodologies
Work collaboratively with audit team members, management, and other stakeholders to gather information and provide audit insights.
Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with audit clients.
Assist with external auditors
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS :
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required
Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, or equivalent certification are a plus
Basic understanding of internal auditing principles and IIA standards
Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills required
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability to interact with people of all levels
Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Integrity, objectivity, and confidentiality
EXPERIENCE :
Prior internship or work experience in auditing, accounting, or a related field is desirable but not mandatory
