JOB SUMMARY :

Adheres to Hospital policies and procedures and philosophy of care and consistently exhibits professional conduct that is an expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence.

Provides basic patient care under the supervision and direction of a Chemical Dependency Professional and / or the Program Manager and which is in compliance with and according to hospital-wide and department-specific policies and procedures and standards of care.

Participates in Quality Improvement activities. Assumes responsibility for clerical and receptionist functions which support the

Recovery Center operations. Assumes responsibility for using effective interpersonal and organizational skills.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE :

Previous experience working in a health care setting providing services to patients. Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and valid Driver’s license.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS :

Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of basic patient care techniques in the care of chemically dependent patients. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with patients and families.

Knowledge in the use of typical departmental equipment, including but not limited to, multi-line telephones, copier, fax machines, addressographs, patient call light systems and computers.

Knowledge of office operations and procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS :

Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials. Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, and blood / body fluids.

Risk of physical injury from lifting supplies and / or patients, and operation of equipment. Risk of physical injury from standing, stooping, and sitting.

WORK CONTACT GROUP : Patients and families, attorneys, probation officers, EAP's, insurance customer rela tions personnel, physicians and health care providers under a wide variety of circum stances.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Sits for extended periods of time while seated at a desk or computer terminal. Hearing and visual acuity within normal range required.

Moderate lifting (50 pounds) and moving of office supplies and / or files. Manual dexterity required to operate keyboard and calculator.

SUPERVISED BY : Director, Recovery Center.

Essential Function :

  • Greets and welcomes all visitors to the department and assists them as appropriate.
  • Respond to routine inquires and requests for information in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls and hotline calls to the department in a prompt and courteous manner, directing calls to others as required or taking complete and accurate messages.
  • Observes patients' response to treatment, records progress notes in chart, and reports accurate information during pass-down.
  • Completes patient and / or EOC checks documenting all information accurately and thoroughly and making certain that it is communicated to an appropriate in charge staff member and / or the next shift.
  • Functions as an active team member in reviewing patients' responses to the treatment program and recommending modifications to the treatment plans.
  • Monitors and maintains office supplies and departmental forms to ensure adequate stock at all times; informs Health Unit Coordinator when supplies and printed material are needed.
  • Performs a variety of office support duties, including filing information in patient charts, setting up patient files, typing, and maintaining accurate census books (including monthly totals and copies) according to departmental guidelines.
  • Participates in special projects as requited to provide support to the departments and organization.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records, patient, employee or medical center information at all times; ensures that all information and conversations regarding patients are secured from general public access.
  • Participates in unit / department performance improvement activities to ensure the development and implementation of processes which support quality service and effective work performance.
  • Participates in all staff meetings and mandatory in-services and training programs to ensure continued understanding of all departmental policies, procedures and performance improvement processes.
  • Ensure smooth functioning of the unit during wake up, meditation, and breakfast. Reports any maintenance needs to the Program Director.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and SEIU Healthcare 1199NW.
