Physician Family Medicine PRN Chat with a Doc

Colorado Permanente Medical Group has a telehealth opportunity for board certified or board eligible Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physicians.

The Chat with a Doc service line offered to Kaiser Permanente Members and was starting 2016 and has rapidly grown to its current role.

At present over 4,000 clinical encounters take place each month between KPCO members and providers working the chat service.

The goal of the service is to offer rapid access to our providers via text based asynchronous communication. Members access chat via links placed on the KP.

ORG pages. Text, links and photos can be sent via chat. Inquiries span a large range of clinical scenarios.

Chat is available free of charge to most members 365 days / year, 7am-11pm weekdays and weekends. We have an adult and pediatric channel in addition to a service associate channel, member services, behavioral health and a pharmacy channel.

Chat providers are responsible for covering shift-based work on the Chat with a Doc service. Providers are expected to manage chat inquiries from KPCO members in real time via text-based asynchronous communication on a 3rd party vendor site.

Physicians will access Health Connect (EPIC) in order to refer to the member's prior medical history and will document a brief summary of the chat encounter in it along with any necessary orders or referrals.

Physicians will need to demonstrate facility with rapid text-based communication. You must feel comfortable addressing the full gamut of inquiries.

Physicians will be expected to manage multiple simultaneous chat encounters, up to 3-4 at a time during busy periods. The ability to task-switch rapidly is important.

CPMG physicians will need to become familiar with venue management patterns for the entire region. In addition to knowing how to best facilitate appropriate care for our members in our MOBs, Chat physicians will need to learn our current approach to deciding which patients are most appropriately evaluated in clinic, which need to be escalated to Urgent Care and which need ED care.

Informational resources, instruction and coaching will be provided, but familiarity with our core facilities, their capabilities and hours of operation is an essential skill expected of Chat providers.

Employment Requirement : Colorado Permanente Medical Group, P.C. staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have established a qualified medical or religious, exemption by September 17, 2021.

All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination or qualifying exemption prior to starting employment.
