Responsibilities :
- Plan, supervise and implement the program for the class in accordance with the polices and philosophies of The Salvation Army.
- Gear the program to the needs of each individual child with concern for his / her interests, abilities, special talents, individual style and pace of learning.
- Treat each child with dignity and respect.
- Help each child become aware of his / her role as an integral member of the group.
- Responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor and learning environment of the classroom.
- Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Submit daily lunch count to the kitchen.
- Participate in required training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth.
- Implement methods for effectively utilizing the services of classroom assistants, student teachers and volunteers.
- Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with the parents of each child.
- Notify parents of sick children and relay policies for the child's return to the classroom.
- Assist in community oriented events and activities.
- Evaluate all children for development or make contact for each child to be evaluated.
- Write goals for each child in the classroom.
- Conduct at least one parent / teacher conference each school year.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education : Minimum of an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or actively working towards it with at least nine semester hours already completed.
- Experience : Have a working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice for children ages 0-6; comply with Illinois Department of Child and Family Services employment eligibility;
- must have or be willing to obtain within 90 days CPR and First Aid certification; must be able to pass background check;
maintain confidentiality of parents and child's information; must maintain twenty hours of continuing education per year.
