The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ( The HARRIS CENTER ) is looking for a Accountant III to join our team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to analyzing trends, costs, revenues financial commitments and obligations.
Prepares non-routine journal entries. Reconciles high volume bank accounts and assigned general ledger accounts. Reports organization’s finances to Management and offers suggestions about resource utilization.
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular funding stream. Relies on professional judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals.
This position works under minimal supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Your role in action :
- Prepares routine and non-routine monthly journal entries for assigned accounts and ensures that all account activity is recorded accurately and timely.
- Performs analysis of routine and non-routine general ledger accounts, reconciliations, and accrual entries. Reviews entries and compares balances as to reasonableness and interprets trends or deviations from expected results.
- Prepares schedules and analysis for financial and program reporting as required.
- Performs work on non-routine special projects and demonstrates the application of appropriate accounting theory and critical thinking skills.
- Communicates regularly with various internal and external personnel to facilitate collections and analysis of financial data.
Includes communicating with internal and external auditors, explaining accounting practices, program requirements, preparing schedules and answering questions.
- Performs treasury and cash management functions as backup, including but not limited to, adding issues for positive pay, canceling issues for positive pay, disposition of positive pay exceptions, performing stop payments and wire transfers.
- Cooperates with internal and external auditors in conducting audits and explaining accounting practices, program requirements, and preparing requested schedules and providing explanation to questions.
What qualifications you will need :
Education :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- CPA, CPA candidate, Graduate Degree or Graduate Degree candidate preferred but not required.
Experience :
Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit environment. Must demonstrate intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and automated accounting systems and accounting methods.
- Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory.
- Ability to analyze and consolidate accounting data.
- Ability to work accurately and timely with numerical detail.
- Ability to utilize computer applications (Word, Excel, etc.) at an intermediate level.
- Ability to use extensive excel skills such as pivot tables to handle complex general ledger account analysis and uploads into the accounting system.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must be able to multi-task and have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
