Job Purpose
Administer a corporate program of product compliance and assist internal customers in ensuring that Graco products comply with worldwide product safety and compliance regulations.
Provide internal education and training necessary to prevent accidents and promote the safe design and use of Graco products.
Support the corporate legal department by providing a narrow range of technical consultation in product liability defense cases.
Essential Duties
- Support design engineering in identifying and addressing safety concerns.
- Review and approve safety plans and release-for-sale documentation for new products.
- Review and approve instruction manuals, warning labels and other product safety documentation.
- Consult with and advise design engineering on relevant and appropriate standards for certification.
- Support design engineering in acquiring product approvals.
- Review agency quotations for product certifications and negotiate with agencies as necessary regarding scope of work and costs.
- Interface between design engineering and the agency as necessary.
- Support design engineering in maintaining product certifications and correcting non-compliance findings of regulatory and approval agency inspections.
- Support design engineering in developing product compliance strategies.
- Develop corporate procedures related to product safety and compliance and assist in their implementation.
- Monitor new and revised worldwide product compliance regulations and provide guidance to design engineering on how these regulations apply to Graco products.
- Contribute to internal library of current US and International standards and regulations.
- Represent the corporation in trade organizations and participate in technical standards development committees.
- Provide technical consultation for a narrow range of Graco products in product liability defense, including product incident investigation and equipment identification.
- Provide general product safety and compliance guidance and training to Graco employees.
- Manage product incident reports from start to finish.
- Other duties as required.
Position Requirements
Education / Certifications
- BS degree in engineering required. EE degree preferred.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable, but not required.
Experience
- Minimum of 6 years of product development or safety engineer experience.
- Consistent highly effective performance at grade 7.
- Demonstrated successful results through project management skills and output of highly accurate work.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams involving multiple corporate stakeholders.
- Experience with product incident investigations
- Highly competent in interpreting product regulations and providing guidance to design engineering.
- History of creating and successfully implementing product regulatory processes and procedures.
- Experience in interfacing with product approval agencies (i.e. UL, Intertek, CSA)
Knowledge
- Strong engineering / technical aptitude.
- Familiar with industrial product safety standards, European Directives and worldwide product regulations.
- Basic knowledge of product liability claims and defenses.

- Experience with EMC and hazardous location approvals
- Occasional travel required
