DEPARTMENT : Tulalip Police Department

JOB SUMMARY : Serves as a guardian and protector of the Tulalip community, provides community-oriented policing and problem-solving strategies while serving the residents and visitors of the Tulalip Reservation.

Patrols within the exterior boundaries of the reservation, prevents crime, and enforces Tribal, State, and Federal Laws.

Conducts thorough and objective criminal investigations, solves crimes, uses judgement to determine probable causes for arrests, writes complete and well documented incident reports using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Writes search warrant affidavits, serves search warrants, collects evidence, serves criminal summons, issue traffic citations.

Conducts interviews with victims, witnesses, suspects, obtaining statements, and documenting interviews in reports. Participates in community service-crime prevention and youth programs.

Provide support and back-up to other Tribal, City, County, State, and Federal agencies, as well as Tribal Gaming Agents and other Tribal programs.

Demonstrates cultural competency and a commitment to upholding Tulalip Tribal Sovereignty, Treaty Rights, Tribal Constitution, Tribal laws, and ordinances.

COMPENSATION : DOE.

The Signing Bonus is paid out in two installments :

  • 1st installment of the bonus is paid on your FIRST paycheck.
  • 2nd installment of the bonus is paid after successful completion of your probationary period.

Eligibility :

  • Signing bonuses are for select positions only and will be indicated on the job posting.
  • Current Employee department transfers are not eligible for signing bonus.
  • Any former Employee who has resigned or been dismissed within the past 12 months is not eligible for a signing bonus.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION :

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must successfully passed and completed a basic law enforcement academy recognized by the Department.
  • College level course work is preferred .

MINIMUM RELATED EXPERIENCE :

  • Must have completed either the Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Academy or a recognized state law enforcement academy with ability to become a certified tribal law enforcement officer in the state of Washington.
  • Demonstrated work experience in Tribal government, assisting the public, youth services, customer service, security, problem solving, is preferred .
  • A combination of work experience and higher education is preferred.

REQUIRED LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS / PREREQUISITES

  • Must have current First Aid and CPR certifications. *If applicant does not meet this requirement, employer will allow six (6) months from hire date to obtain as a condition of employment.
  • Must have and maintain a valid WA State Driver’s License and must adhere to the Tribal Insurance Policy. (Abstract Required)
  • Must be a United States Citizen or an enrolled member of a Federally Recognized Tribe.
  • The Tulalip Tribes requires different levels of pre-employment background screening for all positions. Employment is contingent upon successful passing the Tulalip Police Department Background check.
  • Must pass all pre-employment TPD Police Background Investigation, Polygraph, Psychological, and Medical examinations.
  • Must completely fill out the Tulalip Police Department Personal History Packet.
  • Must not have been arrested for, or convicted of, any crime of violence of which any disposition exists except not guilty.
  • Must not have been convicted of any felony crime or domestic violence.
  • Must not have any restrictions on your ability to carry or use a firearm, such as being named as a respondent on a protection order, restraining order, or anti-harassment order.
  • Must disclose all traffic infractions and vehicle collisions. Driving record will be assessed by TPD.
  • Must disclose any use, possession, or sale of any illegal drugs during lifetime. Applicant’s drug use will be assessed by TPD.
  • An applicant’s Employment history will be assessed by TPD.
  • An applicant’s credit history will be assessed by TPD and any related decision-making issues may be grounds for disqualification.

The following areas of concern are failure to pay income tax and child support.

  • Applicant’s qualifications and suitability will be assessed by the Chief of Police for hire.
  • Reside within a 30-minute response time to the Tulalip Police Department, required within 12 months of appointment.
