Job Description :
Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk.
- There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career / technical programs;
- credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community;
and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.
1. Teaching : Creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a subject.
Teaching encompasses four components : Instructional Design, Instructional Delivery, Instructional Effectiveness, and Instructional Expertise.
2. Scholarly and Creative Engagement : Engage in scholarly and / or creative activity, which may include conference attendance and presentation, participation in professional organizations, academic coursework, scholarly research and publications, and grant activity.
3. Institutional Responsibility : Performing assigned or presumed duties according to one's role at the college. These activities support and advance both the mission of the VCCS and the college to enhance the effective functioning of the college.
- These responsibilities include : participate in the college’s development and evaluation plan for part-time teaching faculty;
- participate in required department, committee, and college meetings; adhere to college and VCCS policies; perform assigned duties;
and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty, and staff. 4. Service : Quality participation and commitment to students, college and / or community organizations, which is an expectation of one’s activities as a professional educator.
Activities in this domain are differentiated college representation, college citizenship, and community citizenship.
Adjunct teaching responsibilities vary as needed by the institution and shall include such combinations of on and off-campus, day, evening, distance learning, and weekend classes.
Individuals hired to teach courses in an adjunct capacity may only teach a total of 12 workload credits in each term (fall and spring) and 8 workload credits in the summer term. Minimum Qualifications :
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or related field with demonstrated competency in the teaching field.
- Teaching experience.
- Ability to design and implement curriculums that align elements of student learning to the student’s educational goals.
- Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate traditional and non-traditional students with diverse backgrounds and varied academic competencies.
- Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning.
- Knowledge of and proven skill with teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, for group presentations or one-on-one settings.
- Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the teaching discipline. Preferred Qualifications :
- Full-time teaching experience.
- Community college teaching experience.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, alternative delivery methods to include online delivery, hybrid and hyflex course options, content software, web-enhancements, etc.
