Description

Come join a team of excited and engaged data scientists working across a wide array of industries and domains, including weather, agronomic science, refined fuels, marine applications, and transportation infrastructure! DTN is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to work in the area of weather risk management, including risk assessment and predictive forecasting, alerting, decision support, and response.

What you will be responsible for :

Collaborate with domain experts to understand requirements and translate them into actionable data science tasks

Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data

Develop and implement innovative machine learning models for classification, localization, prediction, and change detection

Develop data visualization tools and dashboards to communicate findings and insights to stakeholders

Analyze weather and related data to extract meaningful insights related to weather risks including not only severe weather events (e.

g., hurricanes, tornadoes, storms, lightning, hail, wind), but also impacts such as flooding, wildfires, service interruptions, and transportation safety

Perform spatial analysis to understand the spatial distribution of weather patterns and their impacts

Build and optimize alerting engines to provide early warnings and support response decisions by customers

Stay updated with the latest advancements in forecasting, machine learning, and data science techniques

What you will bring to the role :

Demonstrated experience in quantitative and scientific analysis

5+ years of relevant experience in data science, quantitative analysis, meteorology, or a related field

5+ years of experience with data science tools and quantitative analysis programming languages, such as Python (Pandas, Numpy) and JupyterLab

Excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability for analytical thinking

Able to work within cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

Experience working with weather or climate data, such as meteorological models or remote sensing datasets, preferred

The targeted hiring base pay range for this position is between $101,250 and $135,000. DTN is a pay for performance organization, which means there is the opportunity to advance your compensation with performance over time.

The actual base pay offered for this position will be dependent upon many factors, including but not limited to : prior work experience, training / education, transferable skills, business needs, internal equity and applicable laws.

The targeted hiring base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for market competitive variable pay and benefits.
