We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lead CT Technician - Saturday-Monday : 8am-9pm (Sunset Park, Brooklyn).
In this role, the successful candidate coordinates and oversees the daily operations, workflow and staffing requirements to achieve desired outcomes through the effective use of personnel, equipment, supplies and effective workflow processes.
Acts as liaison between staff, physicians and management : promotes teamwork at all times. Applies prescribed ionizing and / or non-ionizing radiation to patients for diagnosis and treatment.
Assists physicians and provides patient care essential to imaging procedures. Exercises professional judgment in performance of procedures.
Job Responsibilities :
- Responsible for coordinating and assigning the Radiology patient transport to pick up and drop off patients from their locations in the Emergency department to ER X-ray and ER-CT and back to the Emergency department based on exam priorities.
- CT scans ordered on Stroke patients or Level 1 Traumas take priority over other CT exams. The CT Exam table must be freed up if the CT technologist is notified of either of these types of CT exams.
This can be accomplished by quickly finishing up any existing study and holding the table open until the patient arrives for the urgent study.
- Responsible for ensuring that imaging studies are prioritized according to when they were ordered. The study must be prioritized if the urgency is designated as a stat on the order or the stat urgency is communicated to you or the department.
- Responsible for the development, implementation, changes and updates of protocols. Compliance of staff selecting and using protocols.
Maintenance of uniform standards and image quality.
- Responsible for managing the diagnostic x-ray and CT daily patient exams. This includes prioritizing the needs of the referring physicians and patients to accommodate stat procedures, stroke and trauma studies, etc.
- Takes initiative and is proactive in resolving issues that are encountered in the department
- Properly plot axial, sagittal, and coronal images for the appropriate exam and can select and adjust the specific scanning protocols to meet the patient needs and condition.
- Performs all documentation duties as required by the department.
- Implements care and knowledge based, skillful, consistent and continuous manner always keeping the patient's welfare the priority.
- Performs all CT procedures quickly and competently choose exams from the work-list, properly label, archive, and store exams
- Ensures the patients comfort and dignity during the procedure use of pillows, table pad, sheets, blankets, etc.
- Ensures the proper name and demographics of the patient appear on all images. Properly uses all measurement functions and reviews layouts.
Demonstrates and understanding of post processing on the reconstruction workstation
- Maintains patient / client rights.
- Accepts direction from supervisor willingly
- Incorporates patients cultural background and values in methods of comm.-unication and service provision
- Assesses patients ability to communicate in English and assists in the Provision of an interpreter when applicable.
- Demonstrates and awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice and respect for co-worker / patient's cultural background
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Communicates effectively with referring physicians, Radiologist, and other departments including the Emergency room to ensure studies are performed in an efficient manner.
- Performs all documentation necessary to perform and charge exam
- Performs examinations in an organized manner and logical sequence. Uses correct side markers and places initials on exam.
- Identifies his / her role to the patient. Explains procedure to the patient and answers questions relating to the procedure.
- Takes quality CT images and / or Radiographs of specified body areas / parts as ordered by the physician, following established protocol / procedures guidelines.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and age-related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his / her assigned area.
- Assist with contacting the Nighthawk provider in order to request their assistance reading studies, as well as establishing communications with the emergency room or Radiology staff.
- Ensure that a Radiologist is notified for all CT studies performed on stroke patients with a history of CVA, Stroke, TIA, slurred speech, etc.
so it can be read within the established 20 minute turn-around time.

- Serve as an expert resource to staff. Staff need to feel comfortable going to the lead with procedural or technical questions, patient or customer concerns, and process questions
- Clearly communicate and introduce new processes into the department / unit.
- Communicate with Radiology leadership on a daily basis to keep them apprised of any obstacles, issues, patient complaints, staff issues, etc.
- Ensure flow of work is organized and efficient and is distributed evenly among staff.
- Actively communicate with the Emergency room referring physicians, nursing staff, and other ancillary staff using a zone phone that will be assigned in order to facilitate timely communications.
- At times your assistance may be required to escort patients to and from the imaging areas and the emergency department when a patient escort is not available or exam volume is high.
- Engage the Emergency room transporter to assist with patient moves if there is a high volume of studies that cannot be completed in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications :
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalent required
5 + years relevant experience as a Registered Technologist (ARRT)
New York State Licensed Radiologic Technologist. IV Certification. ARRT Certification in CT.
