The Information Systems Engineer develops technical designs and provides support of the organization’s end-user computing environment.
The Information Systems Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of the end-user computing environment, including but not limited to Windows, Mac, and Linux workstation provisioning, deployment, and maintenance.
The Information Systems Engineer also leverages configuration management tools to effectively manage a fleet of heterogeneous systems, conducts compliance auditing, and vulnerability and patch remediation.
The Information Systems Engineer also works closely with leadership, stakeholders, and Project / Process Management personnel to effectively translate business strategy and objectives into technological capabilities.
In addition, the Information Systems Engineer interacts, advises and counsels on a regular basis with staff, third party vendors, and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support end-user IT devices life-cycle management (provisioning, deploying, patching, maintaining, backups, security, networking).
- Conduct IT and security assurance systems research and integrate technologies into complex electronic systems.
- Design and maintain IT systems to support various sponsored research projects.
- Implement and maintain client and server software used to support project management and software development.
- Support Cross Domain Data Exchange and Systems Integration.
- Serve as a primary implementor of Infrastructure as Code for configuration management solutions.
- Oversee Virtual machine management.
- Validate security control configuration on systems and ensure all systems are configured for necessary controls, such as STIGS, CMMC, and other similar requirements.
- Actively collaborate with sponsors and external teams in order to derive tasks from detailed requirements.
- Provide tasking to other team members, based off of derived tasks.
- Provide software and merge request code reviews.
- Serve as the primary gatekeeper for infrastructure as code merges.
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage enterprise storage lifecycle including provisioning, performance tuning, routine maintenance and decommissioning in accordance with GTRI security policies and procedures.
- Monitor emerging technology and engage with storage vendors in support of hardware acquisition.
- Assist lead virtual infrastructure engineers with management of ISD’s enterprise virtualization environments.
- Collaborate with Core Systems, Network Operations, and Datacenter Infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration of storage within core datacenter infrastructure.
- In support of capacity planning, work with core systems, data infrastructure, and enterprise application teams to ensure current and future resource requirements are met.
- Setup and maintain management, monitoring, and alerting solutions for the enterprise storage infrastructure.
- Work with security teams to ensure storage infrastructure meets GTRI and CMMC compliance policies. This involves ensuring SOC tools are properly integrated, supporting compliance audits, maintaining awareness of current security threat landscape, and mitigating security vulnerabilities.
- Act as Enterprise Storage consultant / subject matter expert across all GTRI units.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Experience managing enterprise storage infrastructure.
- Experience managing VMware infrastructure.
- Experience implementing and managing Enterprise backup solutions.
- Experience using enterprise monitoring and alerting tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance.
- 5+ years’ experience managing enterprise storage infrastructure.
- 5+ years’ experience managing VMware infrastructure.
- Experience supporting NetApp E-Series, NetApp ONTAP, iXsystems, TrueNAS, HPE Nimble, Pure Storage.
- Experience with MS DPM, Veeam, and Kasten backup solutions.
- Experience with iSCSI, NFS, GlusterFS, Ceph, S3 storage protocols.
- Experience with vSphere and vRealize / Aria Operations.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Hyper-V, Azure HCI.
- Experience supporting Kubernetes storage with Longhorn, Trident, HPE CSI, vSphere CSI, or
- other similar technologies.
- Experience deploying and managing compute clusters in AWS.
- Experience using Prometheus, Grafana, and Zabbix.
- Experience managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Servers.
- Experience using Ansible AWX or Ansible Tower.
- Proficiency with scripting languages including BASH, Python, PowerShell.

- 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or other related field.
- 7 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or other related field.
- 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or other related field.
