Legal.io is working with a leading environmental / consumer products company that is seeking a commercial and products counsel to assist the company on a part-time (20 hours per week), contract basis, for an initial 5-month term.
The core of the work is advising on product issues - e.g., consumer protection, privacy, product safety, marketing compliance, environmental issues - and you'll also help with drafting commercial agreements, including in partnership and sales agreements to restaurants and businesses.
What you’ll do :
- Work with the GC and AGC to lead legal support for product matters, identify and strategize about risks, and advance the company's interests
- Provide solution-oriented legal, regulatory, and strategic advice and direction to Engineering, Product, Marketing, Communications, Policy, Business, and Customer Support from the initial stages of project development to launch and beyond.
- Draft commercial agreements, for example agreements to sell bins to restaurants and employers, engaging consultants and agencies, and partnering with compost haulers and channel sales partners.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws and regulations, including on marketing / product and privacy and data protection.
- Advise on legal issues and risks related to the the company's products and related services, the company's marketing materials and promotions, and new product features or service models.
- Draft and develop company policies and procedures, including drafting terms of service, disclosures and disclaimers, FAQ’s, privacy / data policies, and other customer-facing legal policies and information.
- Drive and manage the development of form agreements, legal and approval processes, workflow process improvements, internal training and guides to scale with the company as it grows.
- Build positive relationships across the company and with its external partners.
Qualifications :
- Law firm and / or in-house experience focused on counseling innovative products / services.
- Background as part of a start-up legal team or outside counsel to start-up legal teams.
- Experience counseling on privacy and data protection, marketing, hardware products, and subscription businesses.
- Prior work in environmental compliance / policy, solid waste / food / agriculture industries, and / or consumer hardware products a plus.
- Interest in policy work around waste prevention, circular economy, GHG emissions reduction, and sustainable agriculture practices.
- Demonstrated business judgment, and the ability to analyze the costs / benefits of proposed resolutions to business and legal issues.
- Proven ability to build solid, trusting, and credible relationships, including working closely with engineering, product and business teams.
- Excellent writing, communication, and people skills.
