Kindergarten Assistant Teacher Position (Part- or Full-Time)
Fairville Friends School is seeking an Assistant Teacher to work in our kindergarten classroom either part-time five mornings (8 : 15-12 : 30 / 1 : 00), or full-time (8 : 15-3 : 30).
This salaried position begins in late August 2024 and continues through early June 2025. Fairville Friends School is a Quaker preschool with an emphasis on learning through play.

The Position
Assistant teachers support the work of the lead teacher through the day. In the morning, the kindergarten class breaks into two small groups of up to eight each for math and reading work.
The kindergarten assistant teacher will teach the math lesson during this time. In the afternoon, the kindergarten assistant supports with various project-based learning and special activities.
We are open to splitting this into two jobs (one morning, and one afternoon), or keeping as one full-time position.
Our staff recognize and nurture the light within each child, help spark joy in learning, model peaceful conflict resolution, and promote a sense of belonging in the wider community.
Our Assistants spend significant time each day outside in a variety of weather conditions, and so we look for staff who love nature and value outdoor play.
We look for educators who are creative and recognize the important role of art in communication and learning. Assistant teachers need to be sensitive to the unique needs of each child, and thoughtful about holding information about students and families in confidence.
Our whole staff works together to cultivate a community of compassion and kindness. Assistant teachers participate fully in the life of the school, including participating in staff meetings, and occasional community or fundraising activities.
Requirements
Bachelor of Arts or Science required, major or study relating to early childhood and / or education preferred but not required.
Classroom experience strongly preferred. Other requirements include :
- Experience with and love of young children.
- Patience, compassion, and sense of humor.
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Appreciation of the natural world, including animals. .
- A broad repertoire of strategies to work with children with diverse needs and abilities.
- Excitement about working closely and collaboratively with other staff members.
- A high level of interest in and willingness to learn about Quaker education.
- All federal and state clearances required for school settings.It is preferred that assistant teachers will have experience working with young children and possess a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education or a related field.
For this kindergarten role, some classroom experience is preferred. All clearances are required at the time of hiring.
