GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Parks & Open Spaces performs professional landscape architectural work for the City of Spanish Fork to implement the development and design of parks, trails and other City owned property and facilities.
This position is responsible for producing plans, reports, sketches, models, photographs, land-use studies, cost estimates;
and assisting with monitoring contractor performance and preparing field reports. This job may be filled by a person with less experience at pay grade 9P.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Designs and prepares landscape construction documents for parks, trails and city right of ways, including construction details, layout, grading and planting plans following city standards and codes.
- Conducts field work and gathers necessary data for landscape construction documents.
- Develops project estimates, budgets, and phasing options.
- Prepares master plans, construction plans and documents, reports, grants, bid specifications, and quotes.
- Prepares maps, sketches, exhibits, drawings, photographs, and other graphic materials.
- Prepares Park improvement plans as needed and required.
- Prepares and makes presentations to committees, boards, organizations, commissions, neighborhood groups and the public.
- Inspects landscape projects to make sure plans and city standards were followed.
- Coordinates plan development with engineers and other design professionals.
- Performs other related duties as required.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from a fully accredited college or university.
- Three or more years of professional experience in landscape architecture and design. Experience specific to planning and design of public parks, paved trails, and streetscapes is preferred.
Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment.
- State of Utah Landscape Architecture license required or ability to become licensed.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of design principles and practices of landscape architecture pertaining to public parks, recreation facilities, and municipal planning.
- Possess excellent organization, communication, and analytical skills.
- The ability to create a concept plan and develop that plan into construction documents.
- The ability to prepare documents pertaining to complex issues in written, oral, and graphic form, including hand sketching.
- The ability to interpret and apply pertinent federal, ADA, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Understanding of materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in park maintenance and construction.
- Interpret and analyze documents, plans, proposals, and specifications.
- Understanding of city policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to municipal operations.
- Proficient in a variety of computer hardware and software programs used in preparation of design and construction documents including planting and irrigation design.
These include but are not limited to AutoCAD, LandFX, Adobe InDesign Suite, Sketch-Up, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
Visit construction and work site locations in a safe and efficient manner.
