Job Description
ASRC Federal Broadleaf is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer supporting our team at Kirtland AFB, NM. This position is an onsite position and offers a sign on bonus.
- Provide high level support to the Air Force (AF) Aviation Safety program through advisory and assistance services to the AF Aviation Safety division.
- Maintain a basic knowledge of and comply with DoDI 6055.01 DoD Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Program, DoDI 6055.
07 Mishap Notification, Investigation, Reporting, and Record Keeping, AFI 91-202 US Air Force Mishap Prevention Program, and AFMAN AFI 91-204 Safety Investigations and Reports, and AFMAN 91-223 Aviation Safety Investigations and Reports publications.
- Recommend solutions for gaps, limitations, or deficiencies discovered during aviation safety investigations and / or system safety analysis.
- Prepare draft policies to improve aircraft acquisition, maintenance, and mishap prevention processes to advance aviation safety and achieve safety-related objectives.
- Review, evaluate, and provide recommendations for airworthiness evaluations using MIL-HDBK-516C criteria in accordance with AFI 62-601.
- Review, evaluate, provide recommendations, and perform system safety assessments using general aviation and military standards IAW ARP-4761, Mil-Std 882E, DO-178B, DO-278, DO-264, and AFI 91-202 and applicable airworthiness bulletins.
- Collaborate on RPA and other aviation safety maintenance and operations related issues with Government and industry experts.
- Attend and participate in RPA System Safety Group conferences.
- Publish papers / articles and present lectures or chairs sessions at conferences / seminars to increase awareness of AF safety efforts in support of safety interests and objectives.
- Support Safety Investigation Boards (SIB) :
- Serve as telephonic or onsite AF Safety Center Technical Representative for active investigations.
- Coordinate technical assistance with Government and industry experts.
- Provide feedback for RPA or other Aviation SIB narratives, findings, and recommendations to ensure quality reports in accordance with DAFI 91-204 and DAFMAN 91-223.
- Perform a quality control assessment on RPA and other aviation safety reports to ensure compliance with DAFI 91-204 and DAFMAN 91-223 requirements and recommend acceptance or rejection.
- Provide input to the Memorandum of Final Evaluation (MOFE) process in accordance with DAFI 91-204 and DAFMAN 91-223.
- Research and recommend acceptance or rejection for mishap recommendation closure requests.
- Review Air Force Safety Automated System (AFSAS) and other mishap databases for accuracy of safety event data and recommend corrections when needed.
- Provide RPA and other aviation safety support for Military Flight Operations Quality Assurance (MFOQA), Airman Safety Action Program (ASAP), Line Operations Safety Audit (LOSA), and other proactive safety programs.
- Respond to RPA and other aviation safety taskers, safety briefings, and presentations for AFSEC staff and higher headquarters.
Requirements
- Possess a B.S. degree in Engineering
- 5-7 years system safety engineering experience
- Experience with Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) or other aircraft preferred
- Experience in aviation human factors, aircraft system safety engineering, airspace integration, aviation safety programs, and aircraft mishap investigation preferred.
- Knowledge of DoDI regulations governing aviation safety.
- Active DOD TS / SCI government clearance
- Must be a US Citizen
