JOB SUMMARY
The Lead Registered Nurse provides oversight and monitors the general day-to-day operations of the nursing department, and provides direct care to program clients, which includes monitoring the physical health of clients.
The Nurse administers medications, assesses symptoms and evaluates patient progress. The Lead RN will serve as the Registered Nurse for the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, and is responsible for providing a full range of RN related services.
RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assists Program Manager of day-to-day operations and supervision of nursing staff.
- Collaborate with leadership team to assign nursing tasks, implement new policies and procedures, assist with and oversee preparation for successful county and state audits, and participate in or assigns medication monitoring audits.
- Provides service coordination for an assigned group of clients, and assumes responsibility for developing, writing, implementing and evaluating overall treatment goals in conjunction with the treatment team.
- Provides on-call crisis intervention covering nighttime hours and serves as a back-up to evening and weekend staff as needed.
- Serves in a mentoring role to staff and interns re pharmacology and patient care, and participates in regularly program and community meetings.
- Provides individual supportive counseling and symptom management and educates and support clients and family members.
- Conducts comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history and physical health needs as part of the treatment team.
- Assists in administering Patient Assistance Program, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all aspects, while completing all charting and documentation as contractually required and as dictated by program requirements.
- In collaboration with the treatment team, participates in the organization and management of medication coaching and delivery to clients, as well as integrating medication administration into treatment plans.
- Acts as liaison with Program Psychiatrist to obtain corrections to documentation and adjustments to procedures as needed and ensures that all medical policy and procedures are followed and meets regularly with Program Leadership to monitor this.
- Dispenses and accounts for all prescribed medication, assists Psychiatrist in administering and evaluating medications prescribed by Psychiatrist, evaluating medication effectiveness, side effects, and complications, and arranges for lab work according to protocol.
- Participates in quarterly Medication Monitoring reviews.
- Maintains a minimum degree of training and knowledge in cultural competency, co-occurring and gender responsiveness and routinely demonstrates these traits in everyday work relationships.
- Acts as a member of the leadership team and maintains program integrity.
- Responds appropriately to medical emergencies.
- Completes all charting and documentation as contractually required and in timely manner as dictated by program requirements.
- Displays regular and reliable attendance. Reports to and departs from work on time, as scheduled, and accurately reflects all time on timecard.
- Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPAA standards.
- Transport clients in MHS or personal vehicle as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
- Ability to problem solve and react appropriately to emergency situations
- Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction and supervision. Uses resourcefulness and takes initiative to accomplish tasks and goals
- Ability to create written documentation that is legible, clear, and concise
- Strong verbal communication skills, and the ability to interpret, explain and advise about medical information to clients, staff, family members and community providers
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and EHR software
- Bilingual in Spanish and English highly preferred, especially when the position serves Spanish speaking population
Valid California driver’s license and current auto insurance coverage.
