About The Position
Job Title : Surgical Technologist I Job Specialty : Operating Room Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Days, 4x10-hour shifts Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week Experience : 0-3 years License : Not specified Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider Must-Have : - Successful completion of service-specific portion of the Surgical Technologist competencies.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.- Excellent organizational and priority-setting skills. Job Description : Perform technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper technical practices according to accepted standards.
- Provide proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation.- Follow aseptic techniques and proactively address contamination or breaks, implementing corrective actions.
- Conduct surgical counts and follow policies and procedures for incorrect counts, reporting discrepancies appropriately.
- Label drugs and solutions, and monitor quantities used.- Assist in the proper identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
- Actively participate in planning and setup of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes for optimal accessibility during procedures.
- Assist the surgeon by demonstrating an understanding of the patient's anatomy and abnormalities affecting the procedure.
- Assist in picking cases and planning instrument needs.- Recognize and modify scrubbing procedures, communicating with the surgical team as needed.
- Respond to surgical emergencies and follow emergency management plans.- Inventory, receive, and store supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.
- Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.- Assist with restocking operating / procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
- Assist the registered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase of nursing practice.- Operate complex equipment and other resources in the operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
- Serve as a mentor for Surgical Technician Trainees and serve as a preceptor as needed.
