Responsibilities :

The Milieu Counselor functions under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor / Manager, Program Counselor facilitates communication with patients and assists in maximizing program participants.

Assists the multidisciplinary staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment in the Inpatient treatment programs by encouraging patients to join group activities and sessions.

Establishes and maintains relationships with patients and hospital personnel. Responsible for assuring confidentiality of patient information.

Under the direction of the Clinical Manager / Supervisor, observes patient behavior and records observations in patient charts and during case conferences.

Follows the direction of the Clinical Manager / Supervisor in crisis situations including Condition 10 or as patient related situations occur.

Responsible for communicating during shift change meetings, including but not limited to, patient room checks and successful hand off at end of shift.

Conducts room checks in all patient rooms as required throughout shift and document(s) appropriately. Following the director of the Clinical Manager / Supervisor, assists in coordinating the unit admission process for patients including but not limited to, physical body and baggage searches, orientation to unit and other related duties.

Under the direction of the Clinical Manager / Supervisor, assists in making sure patients attend group sessions and group activities.

Assists with recreational activities as needed. Assists the Clinical Manager / Supervisor with patient crisis intervention / emergency back-up as needed.

Remains with the patients during the assigned meal period. Attends in-service education programs as assigned to learn new treatments and procedures to develop skills.

Assists multidisciplinary team with patient care, patient intervention, family intervention, safety, fire, disaster, and other areas necessary to maintain a safe environment.

Provides support services for multi-disciplinary team, including but not limited to, phone calls, escorts. Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives.

Qualifications :

High school diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred. Six months related experience and / or training & CASAC-T preferred.

Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment and manage time accordingly to meet deadlines and requirements of the organization.

Basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Office (Word / Excel / Outlook). Bilingual (English / Spanish) is preferred.
