Your Job
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work within a highly capable team of mechanical, optical and electrical engineers to build the most innovative and complex Wavelength Selective Switches for our international clients.
The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and implement the design of optical modules and assemblies and will have a good understanding of processes used to develop and manufacture complex products composed of mechanical, electrical, and optical components.
The Mechanical Engineer will gain knowledge and be responsible for the overall mechanical design, specifications, and performance of developing products and assemblies for use in telecom applications and next generation agile optical networks.
Our Team
Molex possesses a rich heritage in the optical industry. We provide the highest performing and field-proven wavelength management solutions from individual components and modules to integrated line-cards.
We strive for continuous innovation in cutting edge WSS technology and comprehensive optical, mechanical, electrical and software integration capabilities to serve the needs of high-density, high-bandwidth, and flexible optical networks.
What You Will Do
Design & develop cutting-edge wavelength selective switch (WSS) systems & subsystems from concept through production :
- 3D modeling of product & fixturing
- Balance customer requirements, Design for Manufacturing, cross-functional team inputs, industry standard qualification requirements, cost targets, and schedule deadlines
- Set up and run simplified thermal & structural simulations
- Inform interdisciplinary team members of mechanical design constraints to arrive at practical design solutions
- Conduct structured design reviews, document design decisions, and plan milestones for mechanical design delivery
- 2D specifications (manufacturing drawings) including GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Maintain proper design version control in PDM systems
- Configuration control of Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Engineering change management (ECOs) in product lifecycle management systems
- Research, document and implement new or novel technology & manufacturing techniques to promote future generation products
Continuous improvement of existing WSS modules :
- Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis of mechanical aspects of product
- Design production improvements for cost reductions & manufacturability
- Work closely with suppliers to resolve any issues related to performance, fabrication, qualification status, and cost of components
- Work with Product Lifecycle Management team to scope new opportunities at the conceptual level and act upon customer feedback
Collaborate with a global team of engineers to foster mutual benefit :
- Engage with R&D, sustaining engineering, and advanced simulation teams across multiple global engineering sites
- Collaborate on design tasks & delegate work to global supporting engineering staff
- Become a source of global technical expertise in WSS design and manufacturing
