Health Information Management Data Analyst / Medical Records

The HIM Data Analyst in the department of HIM Administration at MD Anderson Cancer Center will evaluate patient health information to ensure accuracy and appropriateness for adding to the health record.

Will directly impact the quality and accuracy of patient health information.

The ideal candidate will have experience with chart corrections, overlays, deficiency tracking, and forms management.

The department of Health Information Management (HIM) serves a multitude of internal and external clients which include clinical and research faculty, patients and their families, staff employees, students, regulatory and accreditation agencies, third party payers and other patient representatives such as attorneys.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

Serves as the initial point of contact for electronic health record (EHR) corrections for those who document in the patient health record.

Analyzes and identifies root cause of data discrepancies and determines action plans. Compiles weekly reports and statistical data.

Identifies trends or issues pertinent to the operations and integrity of the EMPI. Participates in rotational on call schedule to assist with research and resolution of issues with linking patient Medical Record Numbers.

Leads discussions on clinical and functional design with multidisciplinary teams. Collaborates with staff at source system level to coordinate updates and merges to medical records.

Works with stakeholders to develop detail content design documents. Formats, designs, and builds relevant content into online forms.

EDUCATION :

Required : Bachelor's degree in Business, Health Information Management or related field.

EXPERIENCE :

Required : Three years of health information management, medical records management or related experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred : Experience with chart corrections, overlays, deficiency tracking, and forms management.

LICENSE / CERTIFICATION :

Preferred : Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) would be a plus.
