Overview
This General Surgeon is a licensed physician who adheres to the highest standards of evidence based medical practice, ethics, and professionalism at all times.
This position provides surgical services in an outpatient / inpatient setting, consisting of diagnosis, treatment and referrals as appropriate.
Duties of this position are to understand HCD Primary Care Clinics / Lakeside Medical Center protocols and procedures and to ensure quality of care for all patients.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions :
- Performs surgeries and manages the surgical team both in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
- Develops preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative plans.
- Discusses surgery results with patients and medical staff.
- Examines patients to make diagnoses and treat illnesses and injuries.
- Surgeon is part of Medical staff and will adhere to all medical laws / guidelines, medical staff policies / Bylaws, regulations, and standards.
- Adheres to the healthcare facility’s policies and procedures.
- Physician is hired full-time.
- Physician will be responsible for the completion of all medical records in a timely manner.
- The Physician round on in service patients and will provide appropriate sign-off once off duty.
- Physician will provide call coverage to Lakeside Medical center’s Emergency room while on duty.
- This physician will respond to facility in house emergencys once Physician is made aware. Should multiple emergencies occur simultaneously, a Physician will do his or her best to evaluate the situation is and respond to patients most urgently needing evaluation and treatment.
- The physician will assist hospital administration and marketing and development of the general surgery program.

- Systems-based practice. The Physician will demonstrate knowledge of the components of the Health Care System, how those components interact and how improvements can be made with individual and group efforts.
Qualifications
Education :
A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree is required.
Experience :
- At least 5 years of surgical experience is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in a rural setting and in a public sponsored hospital is preferred. Bilingual / Trilingual in English, Creole and Spanish preferred.
Certification :
An active certification or eligibility in general surgery from The American Board of Surgery is required
Licensure :
Unrestricted license form the Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine or the Florida Medical Board.
Registrations :
Drug Enforcement Agency Controlled Substance Registration including schedules : 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, 5.
Training :
- Current Medicare and Medicaid provider numbers required.
