The Reactor Plant Contractors' Office (RPCO) Program is seeking Field Engineers for the Electric Boat location in Groton, CT.

The amount of construction work in progress currently is energizing and you have the opportunity to be part of building submarines that will be in operation for the next 40 years! RPCO engineers operate in a fast paced, dynamic environment and independently exercise authority to ensure that work is conducted in a safe manner.

RPCO field engineers are on-site representatives of NNL and BPMI. The selected candidate will provide engineering support and independent oversight of work associated with installation, testing, and modification of reactor plant systems, components, and safety systems.

RPCO engineers are engaged during nuclear work and operations and are expected to influence and provide feedback to on-site management and partner organizations.

This position involves direct interaction with Navy personnel, shipyard engineering, local government representatives, and partner organizations at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory and Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc.

Successful completion of a job-specific Joint Test Group qualification is required for this position. Training and qualification associated with this position is expected to take approximately 6-10 months, depending on previous experience, and will be conducted at the Knolls Laboratory Site in Schenectady, NY.

At the conclusion of the qualification, the prospective RPCO Field Engineer will be expected to demonstrate an adequate understanding of the principles and details associated with reactor plant operation and testing and the ability to function in an engineering and oversight capacity at a remote location.

This position is an exciting opportunity to be part of the submarine new construction process. Opportunities to travel to other field locations may exist to support peak work periods.

  • This is a 3 to 5 year assignment in a field office upon completion of qualification. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience;
  • or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience;

or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE / ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.Preferred Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience in applying innovative solutions to resolve problems / improve performance
  • Prior Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program operational or design experience is desired but not required.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring ability.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to varying tasks and responsibilities.
