ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY :

We are currently looking for a Managing Director to join our M&A and Activism team. As a Managing Director, you will report to the Senior Managing Director and Head of M&A and Activism in the Americas.
You will play a vital role in shaping the future of the practice. We are seeking an enthusiastic leader who sees the potential for a global consultancy to uniquely help clients navigate transactions in the era of stakeholder capitalism.
As the practice reasserts itself in North America, this entrepreneurial leader will embrace a challenge, be eager to pursue new opportunities and ready to think creatively to realize growth.
This includes leading account teams, playing a visible role in marketing, setting the culture on the team and helping craft the practice’s growth strategy.
As a global firm and part of a broader consultancy, the role also includes coordinating cross-border assignments and finding ways to integrate capabilities with the full range of capabilities across the FTI platform.
The individual will have comfort advising C-suite level clients and boards of directors. The individual will have a proven capability of managing notable transaction and / or activist engagements, with a reputation of delivering results for clients, working collaboratively with teams and serving as a trusted partner to financial and legal advisers.
The practice engages with all of FTI Strategic Communications offerings, so the individual will be expected to have capability to manage cross-stakeholder communications and an interest in working collaboratively across practices.
PRIMARY EXPECTATIONS :
- Manage multiple client accounts with a focus on client counsel, project management, budgeting, expansion and long-term relationship development across FTI’s business lines.
- Maintain and expand professional networking relationships with corporate management teams, investment bankers and specialized law firms to drive new business opportunities for FTI.
- Work with colleagues to produce business pitch materials, create tailored sales presentations, and lead new business pitches.
- Support the growth of key practice area specialized offerings such as ESG activism.
- Identify opportunities and proactively initiate efforts to market the practice through thought leadership, research, prospecting or networking.
- Serve as an ambassador of the Practice internally and externally.
- Have a thorough understanding of each client’s business, market, investment thesis, culture and communications practices across IR, PR and Public Affairs.
- Work with reporters on behalf of clients, as directed.
- Engage with sell-side analysts and investors on behalf of clients, as directed.
- Remain flexible to adapt to supporting the account needs.
- Advise clients on communications best-practices across all key stakeholders.
- Work with colleagues in other Practices to ensure the execution of a cohesive, multi-disciplinary communications program.
- Support the development of the practice itself by being an enthusiastic partner, staying up to speed on emerging best practices, demonstrating creativity in how the team can evolve and helping the team stay informed on competitor activity.
For FTI’s Strategic Communications Practice :
- Work within Strategic Communications’ Financial Communications Practice network and leverage resources and prior relevant work for new projects that arise.
- Be a mentor to mid- and junior-level employees.
- Develop a full understanding of all of the Strategic Communications practice and FTI’s service offerings and be proficient enough to discuss them fluently in any client or sales situation.
- Help clients identify and escalate risks in order to act and communicate with integrity.
- Understand and live by FTI’s values, Code of Ethics and the Strategic Communications Rules of Practice, and work with junior staff to embed these concepts within the firm’s culture.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 10 years of experience at an agency focused on capital markets, corporate communications or investor relations, strongly preferred.
- Travel required to clients and to FTI office(s).
PREFERRED SKILLS :
- Excellent written and oral presentation skills both in a large group and smaller meetings.
- Proven advanced writing skills, particularly with complex documents and persuasive messaging such as proposals, press releases, op-eds, research reports, etc.
- Ability to concisely articulate and competently support a company’s core narrative.
- Analytical skills to identify and diagnose key issues, misperceptions and factors impacting a company’s perception (valuation, governance, reputation) as well as the communications solutions to fix / mitigate them.
- Ability to learn new concepts quickly and possess a service-oriented attitude.
- Demonstrated history of project management during a major corporate event.
- Developed ability to multi-task across client programs, firm initiatives and sales opportunities.
- Ability to recognize, explore and use a broad range of ideas and practices, thinking logically and creatively without influence from personal bias.
- Capacity to adjust behavior to meet client needs and personalities and to establish positive relationships with a wide variety of individuals both internally and externally.
- Ability to direct a project from concept to conclusion and manage all levels of employees, including support staff, peers and senior managers.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient skills in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Proficient in Factset, Refinitiv or Capital IQ.
