Description
The Science Lab Specialist position is a 12-month position in the Natural Sciences Department on the Pensacola Campus. The successful candidate will manage the chemistry laboratory and chemical storage areas.
The primary roles of the Science Lab Specialist will be to set up lab equipment for experiments and maintain a safe, clean environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Laboratory set up will include preparation of chemical solutions, maintaining working condition of all equipment, and ensuring a safe laboratory environment.
Additional duties include, but are not limited to : maintenance and record keeping of material safety data sheets (MSDS) and hazardous materials, repair and purchase of lab equipment, and assisting chemistry faculty and students as necessary.
Compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies is essential. The candidate will work with the facilities department to collect, record, and remove hazardous waste.
The candidate will also ensure all safety equipment is in working order and all students, faculty, and staff are up to date on safety procedures in the laboratory.
May be required to travel in-district and perform other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Department Head of Natural Sciences.
Minimum Qualifications : Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Biological or Physical sciences required.
Successful results of a criminal background check are required.
Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of 435.
04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Personnel who are hired to fill positions in a charter school are also required to meet employment eligibility requirements per 1012.
32(2)(b)(1). Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position.
A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.
Preferred Qualifications : Prefer experience in a biological or natural science laboratory setting, and ability to maintain accurate inventory records and place resourceful supply orders.
Salary Range : $39,500.00 - $45,000.00
