Position Purpose

What you will Do
- Implements nursing intervention and adapts care based on changes in patient condition, consultation with other professionals, and patient / family needs.
- Operates hemodynamic monitoring equipment during cardiac catheterization. Assesses hemodynamic data during catheterization procedures and alerts physician and circulating nurse to changes and abnormalities.
- Functions as circulating nurse, assessing patient condition and needs. Provides physician and scrub nurse with requested supplies.
Operates Red-Rad injector. Administers medications as required.
Performs surgical scrub duties utilizing aseptic technique. Sets up pressure lines and surgical pack pre-procedure using aseptic technique.
Assists physician with placement of catheters.
- Prepares special procedure equipment including PTCA balloons, arthrectomy devices, stents, IABP and fem-to-fem bypass catheters and assists physicians with placement and operation.
- Operates x-ray equipment and procedure table. Operates fluoroscopy during catheter placement. Is knowledgeable in operation of image archival and retrieval equipment and the procedures for doing so.
- Assesses hemodynamic data recorded during catheterization and calculates gradients, valve areas, shunts, ejection fraction, etc.
- Maintains level of competency in support of equipment including temporary pacemaker, external pacemaker, IABP, etc.
- Transports patient to nursing unit. Gives report to nursing unit staff in concise and informative manor, including diagnosis, procedure performed, present or possible complication(s), confirmation of pulses, physician orders, etc.
- Assists with implantation of permanent pacemakers. Is knowledgeable of pacemaker analysis and pacemaker follow-up.
- Cleans and restocks cath lab after each procedure. Cleans and prepares reusable instruments for sterilization. Prepares reusable drape packs for sterilization.
Assists with ordering and maintaining adequate inventory of supplies in cardiology.
Minimum Qualifications
Is a registered nurse maintaining current licensure defined by Interstate Compact. A senior level nursing student of accredited nursing program may apply.
All registered nurses hired after January 1, 2014, are required to obtain a BSN degree within 4 years of hire. A senior level nursing student may be awarded an RN Bargaining Unit position and may begin employment in the capacity of a Nurse Graduate, following successful graduation from an accredited ADN and / or BSN program until a valid RN license is obtained.
- Requires a minimum of one year RN experience in ICU / CCU or post critical care.
- Previous pressure monitoring / EKG monitoring experience preferred.
- BCLS and ACLS certification required.
