The Dean of Students Office at Whittier College is seeking a Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students.
The Vice President and Dean of Students is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the creation and implementation of educationally purposeful, student-centered, co-curricular programs and services designed to foster the learning and personal development of students in an educational environment infused with common elements of interdisciplinary and community-based learning, service and leadership.
Through the Student Life team, the VP / Dean of Students coordinates and assesses a unified program of student services designed to promote the success of students and improve the quality of the student experience.
Informed by Whittier’s Quaker origins and appreciative of the College’s designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, the VP / Dean of Students at Whittier College works collaboratively with Academic Affairs and the entire campus to ensure the establishment of conditions necessary for the success of students from matriculation to graduation.
This position is considered a Campus Security Authority and a mandated reporter.

Exempt Status : Exempt
Full-Time / Part Time status : Full-Time
Salary Range : $175,000-$195,000 annually; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with the Advancement staff to coordinate outreach and communication with parents.
- Work collaboratively with Admission Office on Preview Days and Admitted Student Days activities.
- Represent student-related issues to the Enrollment Management and Student Life Committee of the Board of Trustees.
- Participate in and chair campus committees as delegated.
- Initiate and / or assist in the development of grant proposals.
- Provide counsel, advice, and advocacy to address student-related issues through the Community, Affirmation, Resilience, Empowerment (CARE) Program.
- Facilitate the withdrawal and leave-of-absence process for departing students and implement an exit interview / survey process.
- Maintain disciplinary and student support records (via CARE) and database for students.
- Ensure that the Student Life pages on the College’s website are updated.
- Initiate new programs and services (e.g. Food insecurity committee and emergency fund) to respond to student interests, concerns, and needs.
- Coordinate Student Life Awards as part of the Spring Honors Convocation.
- Uphold ethical and fiduciary standards as expected of an executive officer of the College.
- Receive other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.

Position Specifications and Requirements
Previous Experience
- Increasingly responsible administrative experience in higher education.
- Will include ten or more years in related areas of senior responsibilities.
Knowledge and Education
- Knowledge of comprehensive student development operations, student development theory, planning and budgeting supervision, marketing, assessment, and leadership.
- Title IX experience and knowledge preferred. Earned doctorate highly preferred.
