Pathology and Laboratory Medicine - Microbiology

As a member of PaLM, the Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) works under the supervision of the Manager for the Microbiology Laboratory in coordination with the Senior Medical Laboratory Technologists.

MLTs in the Microbiology laboratory are responsible for Bacteriology, Virology, Serology, Molecular Microbiology / Virology, Epidemiology, Mycology and some special projects.

This position requires the ability to travel to other campuses to fulfill the duties of the position.

Qualifications

  • Certification with C.S.M.L.S or equivalent
  • Current registration or eligible as a Medical Laboratory Technologist with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario with authorization to practice relevant specialties in Laboratory Medicine
  • Recent experience in : Microbiology Specimen Receiving and Processing Gram stain and special stain reading Main Lab routine bacteriology Identification and Susceotibility Testing Methods Bacteriology and Virology Quality Control Anaerobic Bacteriology Molecular techniques (virology and bacteriology) Serology
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work shifts and weekends
  • Demonstrated accuracy and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop and maintain effective relationships within healthcare teams
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety al LHSC

Teaching, Learning and Research
